Worse than the Real World

My good friend and some-time colleague, Kevin Shivers works in information security on the front lines. No, not Baghdad... a college campus. At CSI's 30th Anniversary conference in DC on November 4, he delivered an excellent talk called "Taming the Beast - Securing A Large University Network." Recently, he wrote "A story of fighting Blaster, an unpatched XP machine, and a dialup connection."

Find both interesting "reads" at http://oitsec.umd.edu/.

Stuck with IE, No Longer!

In this entry, I mentioned (understatement) how I could not get Navigator nor Firebird nor Opera to do what I wanted and so I was stuck with IE. That is until I got this e-mail from Lenard Stanga:

bugging me too, and I found this at frownland.com
"Oh, and also for the record, if anyone else using Firebird on Windows wants links launched from email or the Run box to appear in new windows, head for about:config | advanced.system.supportDDEExec and set it to false. It's the equivalent to IE's "Reuse windows for launching shortcuts" option. Was driving me mental."
good luck, mine has stayed since I changed it!

Mine has also, and now I don't have to use IE and am happily using ( Mozilla Firebird).
